Oceans Indicate Young Earth |
|||
Did-u-know the water in the oceans indicate the earth is young? Scientists know that today the concentration of salt in the oceans is 3.6%. By testing the water entering the oceans through the rivers they can tell how much salt is being added each year. If that amount is subtracted from the total in the oceans each year, scientists calculate the water would be fresh about 5,000 years ago. That is a big difference from a billion plus years. (1) Here is another way the oceans indicate the earth is relatively young. When volcanoes erupt today, as much as 20% of the erupted material is water that has never been to the surface of the earth. Scientists have observed volcanoes erupting at the rate of about a dozen each year. They estimate that about 1 cubic mile of water is added to the surface water system through these eruptions every year. Scientists estimate there are about 340,000,000 cubic miles of water in the earth's oceans, lakes, and streams today. If all that water came from volcanic eruptions, the earth was dry 340,000,000 years ago. (2) Evolutionists believe that is about the time fish evolved into amphibians and crawled out of the ocean. You can conclude from this evidence that the earth is relatively young. (1) Dr. Kent Hovind seminar (2) Dennis Petersen, Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation , p. 47 Return to the Article Page |
