Did-u-know there is scientific evidence that atmospheric conditions were different sometime in the past? The fossil record has produced dragon flies with 50 in. wing spans, 18 in. cockroaches, 24 in. grasshoppers and get this, 8 ft centipedes. (1) Insects breathe through their skin, therefore the amount of oxygen in the air and the barometric pressure could determine how large it grows. (2) The larger an insect grows the less surface area there is for it to breathe through compared to its volume. The barometric pressure and oxygen content today limit insects to their present size. According to the BBC News, bugs growing in oxygen rich waters grow up to 100 times heavier than those living off the coast of Europe. (3) The large insects found in the fossil record indicate the atmosphere must have had more pressure and oxygen content in the past than it has today. Some scientists believe there was a canopy of water above the atmosphere of the earth before Noah's flood. Gen. 1:6 says, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the water and let it separate the waters from the waters.” This extra water in the form of ice or vapor would probably double the air pressure that we now have. Could these large insect fossils be proving the Bible to be true?
